S.E.S.E.: Weather Instruments & Rainclouds

27th Feb 2026
Creating weather instruments allowed our class to learn about meteorology. We spoke about a thermometer (temperature), barometer (air pressure), anemometer (wind speed), rain gauge (rainfall amount), and wind vane (wind direction).

We created some and took them outside to test them out. We will monitor the rainguage next week to see how much rain falls.

The "Rain Cloud in a Jar" activity is a simple STEM experiment demonstrating the water cycle. By filling a jar 3/4 with water, topping it with shaving cream ("cloud"), and adding diluted food coloring ("rain") via a dropper, the cream becomes saturated and releases colored droplets, simulating rain.
