St Brigids Day: Brìdeog Doll
28th Jan 2026
As we come near the end of Winter, we welcome Spring with the story of one of our patron saints St. Brigid and the traditions and customs surrounding her. One which we discussed was the Brìdeog. We also looked at the story behind her cross as we made some in preparation for Grandparents Day.
In an ancient custom, still practised in parts of Ireland, children would make a Brideog Doll for St. Brigid’s Day. The doll was created as a physical representation of St. Brigid.
We decided alongside our crosses to make a brìdeog doll and look up some information on this custom.
